Position Summary: The Musical Director (MD) determines the artistic direction of the Chorus, selecting music and themes with the assistance of members. The MD creates programs, auditions singers, leads rehearsals, and develops the performance skills of the members. The MD works collaboratively with assistant directors and the leadership team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Develops education plan and is the primary music educator for the Chorus.
● Mentors assistant directors and section leaders.
● Appoints and collaborates with the Music Team (select members of the chorus) in preparing and presenting the season’s major shows/performances by developing performance themes and repertoire.
● Directs rehearsals of the Chorus; communicates with members in a regular and timely fashion about details of rehearsals.
● Collaborates with the Music Team and leadership team in creating small ensembles for outreach programs.
● Teaches and interprets music to showcase chorus abilities and directs chorus/ensembles (as needed) in performances.
● Auditions and voice places new members as well as mentoring members on individual vocal skills.
● Communicates regularly with the Chorus leadership; Attends leadership meetings and planning initiatives and provides regular reports to the leadership team and coordinates on performance details.
● Networks with other arts organizations, music directors, and community groups to increase the visibility of the Chorus and to explore collaborative opportunities and build relationships.
● Actively participate in organization’s regional and national education events to improve acumen on a cappella performance as well as competition requirements within the Sweet Adeline International programs.
Timing/Scheduling Specifics:
CCSC currently rehearses on Monday evenings (6:30pm-9:00pm EST) at St. John Lutheran School and Church, 3937 Canal Street, New Orleans LA 70119.
The traditional schedule of CCSC is year-long with a show in the fall, performances throughout December, and competition at a regional site (usually Texas) in March or April. CCSC also performs one to three outreach performances in the community per year, which involves 20-45 minutes of music, and also holds fundraising events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Has education or significant experience in a relevant area, such as: Music Education, Music Performance, or Musical Theater. Candidates should have experience in teaching and have taught and performed a cappella arrangements as well as have directed singing groups performing in a variety of genres, including popular/contemporary a cappella music.
Desired Professional and Personal Characteristics:
● Holds a degree in a musical-relevant area
● Maintains musical integrity and high level of musical standards and challenges and supports the chorus with these standards
● Has demonstrated skill in training and instructing singers with diverse musical backgrounds and experience levels
● Has experience in directing choruses of varying sizes.
● Models and encourages motivation, discipline, and joy of singing
● Works effectively with leadership team and volunteers
● Has a willingness to learn competition requirements/standards and work within them to enable the group’s continued success
● Has experience collaborating with performing arts groups and networking to develop musical programs

Description of Position: This position serves talented music students across multiple school sites within St. Mary Parish. The teacher travels between assigned schools to provide individualized and small group music instruction to students who have been identified as talented in music.

Provide one-on-one and group lessons tailored to each student’s musical talent and needs
