LMEA Mentoring Program

The LMEA Board, at its May, 2021 meeting, established the LMEA Mentoring Program as part of its Professional Development Committee. This program is targeted to new or emerging music teachers in all school districts.

The goal of the Mentoring Program is to strengthen the future of music education through strategic professional partnerships and professional development opportunities, both online and in-person.

REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHERS WILLING TO SERVE AS A MENTOR

  • 6+ years of Teaching Experience
  • Currently employed as a Music Educator with a Classroom assigned to their name
  • Can be a retired music educator
  • Must be a current member (active or retired membership) of LMEA
  • Complete the Application process
  • Must be willing to share their experience and feedback
  • Must be available to attend the LMEA Professional Development Conference
  • Be available for monthly one-on-one video chats with mentee(s)
  • May not miss more than (2) video coaching chats
  • Be available for at least (2) in-person school visits per school year. One (1) at the beginning of the school year and one after Jan. 1. More visits are recommended for struggling situations.
  • May have more than one Mentee
  • Preferable to mentor someone in the same area of expertise
  • Attend 1 Mentor Training Session

REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHERS REQUESTING A MENTOR

  • 0-5 years of Teaching Experience
  • Be teachable
  • Currently employed as a Music Educator with a Classroom assigned to their name
  • Must be a current member of LMEA
  • Complete the Application process
  • Must be willing to share their experience and feedback
  • Must be available to attend the LMEA Professional Development Conference
  • Must be available to attend the LMEA Virtual Back-to-School Professional Development Conference. This will be offered FREE to all mentees.
  • Be available for monthly video chats
  • May not miss more than (2) video coaching chats
  • A mentee can have more than one mentor depending on the individual needs.
  • Be available to host the Mentor for at least (2) in-person school visits per school year for the entirety of the school day. One (1) at the beginning of the school year and one after Jan. 1. More visits are recommended for struggling situations.
