Nominations for LMEA Board of Directors

Nominations are open through December 31st for the board positions listed below. Please see the LMEA Board of Directors – Job Description Manual for more information about the responsibilities connected with each office. All offices are held for two-year terms with the exception of President, which is a six-year term that includes two years as president-elect, two as president, and two as immediate past-president.  

Submitting a Nomination

The LMEA Past-President is responsible for all elections. Nominations for all elected board positions must be submitted to the Past-President to be placed on the ballot.

Elections

If there is more than one nomination for an office, an election will be held in early spring – usually early March. Information about the candidates and the dates of the election will be posted on this website, in the February Louisiana Musician, and in a Louisiana Connection Newsletter. A link to the ballot will be sent to all current, full members. (Retired members and collegiate members are not eligible to vote.)

If there is only one nomination for an office, the past-president will recommend that the board accept the nomination by acclamation at the May board meeting.

All newly-elected officers begin their term during the May board meeting.

Nominations submitted by December 31st of an odd-numbered year:

  • President (nominee must have previously held an elected board position)
  • Band Division Chair
  • Vocal Division Chair
  • Orchestra Division Chair
  • Jazz Division Chair
  • Elementary Division Chair
  • Collegiate Division Chair (works with CNAfME)
  • University-Research Chair
  • Public Relations Chair

Nominations submitted by December 31st of an even-numbered year:

  • District Directors
