Scotty Walker, LMEA Executive Director, and Brett Babineaux, LMEA President, attended the 2023 NAfME National Assembly in Reston, Virginia to represent LMEA. This included a Capitol Hill Day for Music Education where they were able to meet with Senators and Congressmen to speak about critical issues for Louisiana Music Educators. Some of the topics discussed:
- Federal Legislation pertaining to Equity in Arts
- Guaranteed Access to Arts and Music Education
- Mental Health Crisis for Teachers
- Teacher Shortage
- ESSER Funding
- Little-to-No Representation of music at the district and state levels.
- Sharing personal stories about the impact music made in our lives and in those around us.
- Funding, support, access, and quality instruction needed for underserved, minoritized, and rural schools.
We are excited to see LMEA represented at the National Assembly!
